Canaletto - Dresden City Festival
Every year, 500,000 visitors are expected to attend the Dresden City Festival. During three days, different thematic scenes allow visitors to appreciate both the modern charm of the city and the history of the city and the House of Wettin. There are activities for all tastes and ages. It is the largest festival of its kind in Germany and the highlight of the year in Dresden. We also recommend the Grape Harvest Festival and the travelling street theatre held every autumn in the Radebeul district.

Striezelmarkt - Christmas Market in Dresden

It is the oldest Christmas market in Germany with a certificate dating back to 1434. Of course, you can taste the Dresden speciality known throughout Germany, the Christstollen (Striezel), a bread with raisins and marzipan, on the Altmarkt square. Another market is organized around the Frauenkirche (Neumarkt).
Theaters, Concerts, Art Galleries of Dresden

Opera Semperoper
The Semper Opera is considered one of the most beautiful theatres in the world, and at the same time it enjoys a worldwide reputation for its concerts of high artistic level, supported both by the quality of its orchestra and by the many international guests. The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden has been one of the most traditional orchestras in Germany for more than 470 years and thus takes you back to the time of the Court of the Kings and Princes of Saxony. Philharmonic Orchestra Dresden
The Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra looks back on 150 years of history as the orchestra of the state capital of Saxony. Since 2017 it has been back in the ultra-modern concert hall of the Kulturpalast in the heart of the Old Town. With its romantic repertoire, the orchestra has been able to retain its uniqueness. Mountain railways - Loschwitz
We recommend a bike tour along the Elbe Valley with its vineyards and castles. Up to the bridge of the "Blue Miracle", a technical marvel, which connects the town of Blasewitz with Loschwitz, where you will find two railway jewels; a suspension train (photo) and a rack railway. Enjoy the view from the upper station and restaurants will be there for a pleasant culinary break before leaving for Dresden. Photo: © DVB

Elbe River Cruises
With the fleet of steamboats, the beauty of the Elbe Valley is once again combined with the technical marvels of these old steamers still in service. The oldest steamer of the company listed below dates back to 1841 (Diesbar in photo). Take a short discovery cruise or use it to travel to Rathen and make the short hike to the Bastei (the world-famous geological formation).

Zoological Park
The zoo is home to more than 1,500 animals of about 250 species. It covers an area of about 13 hectares and offers you a fascinating journey through all continents. In recent years, many enclosures have been modernised, enlarged and designed to be as close to the wild as possible. The Great Garden & Botanical Gardens
The Great Garden is a park of Baroque origin and the largest in the city. It was laid out from 1676 on the orders of Elector Johann Georg III and has been extended several times in the course of its history, so that it occupies an area of about 1.8 km2. Part of it has been used by the Zoo since 1861. The Botanical Garden, which was inaugurated in 1893 and contains 10,000 different plant species, is also located here. You can walk to the Botanical Garden via the Kreuzkirch church and along a park (Lingnerallee).

Travel back to the Baroque period of Dresden between 1695 and 1760 and discover the city at its peak. In the form of a 360° panorama! Milk shop Pfunds
LThe heart of the Pfunds Dairy Company is the building at Bautzner Straße 79 with the world's most beautiful milk and cheese shop (Guinness Book) on the ground floor with walls completely covered with catelles painted by Villeroy & Boch. "Transparent" factory VW
The "transparent" factory in Dresden is one of the three production sites of Volkswagen Sachsen. The Phaeton was produced here from 2002 to 2016, since April 2017 the electric Golf has been the star. From autumn 2020, production of the e-Golf will be replaced by the ID.3 The manufactory is the centre of future mobility at VW. Located in the centre of Dresden, a visit is well worthwhile.
