Museum of Fine Arts
The Hamburg Museum of Fine Arts presents several important collections of Old Masters, Impressionists and Modern and Contemporary Art. The museum has two strong points, first of all the painting of Northern Germany around 1400 with its Hanseatic influence but also the Old Masters from other European regions, including Italian painting from 1350 to 1800. The second major attraction of the museum is the Romantic painting of the 19th century with 14 works by the painter Caspar David Friedrich, the most famous of which are The Sea of Ice (1823) and The Traveller Contemplating a Sea of Mist (1818).
